The Nambour Community Centre is proud to host the Nambour and District Suicide Prevention Working Group on Tuesday 19 September.
This is a chance to be part of and to play an important role in this local community initiative. Attendees will learn how they can make a difference within the community as well as share ideas and develop local community initiatives and activities to prevent suicide.
This is not a counselling or support group, but a community initiative to work toward suicide prevention in our community.
Everyone is welcome to attend the working group on Tuesday 19 September from 9-10.30am at the Nambour Community Centre, 2 Shearer Street, Nambour.
Anyone needing more information can phone Shine Jang on 5441 4724 or email email@example.com or Helen Shearn on 0451 307 560 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Nambour and District Suicide Prevention Working Group is part of the Hinterland and Sunshine Coast Suicide Prevention Network.
Starting the journey to a healthier you can be daunting but the Watching Our Weight (WOW) group offers a safe and supportive environment for those wanting to lead a healthy life.
The WOW group first started in 2012 at the Nambour Community Centre (NCC) with an aim to support and encourage people who want to keep their weight in check by weighing-in each week in the company of friendly members.
The group meets on a Wednesday morning from 8.30am for a cuppa and a catch-up, before the weight-in at 9am.
Group coordinator Coleen said each member’s weight is recorded at the end of each month and there are rewards for those who achieve good results.
Coleen said each meeting includes interesting discussions about healthy meals that can be whipped up in the kitchen, guest speakers and other information the members may like to learn about.
“We have outings during the year for our club’s birthday, Christmas in July, fundraisers for the Biggest Morning Tea and our end-of-year lunch,” she said.
Membership is open to everyone and is $10 per year with a $4 meeting fee each week to cover costs. Members pay 50c if they put on weight.
“We are there to support each other in a very friendly way and WOW is a very lovely way to meet new friends,” Coleen said.
For more information on WOW, phone 5441 2621. Meetings are held at Nambour Community Centre, 2 Shearer Street, Nambour.
