Nambour Good Beginnings provides Family Support through professional workers and also utilises the services of trained volunteers. This service offers support, friendship and practical assistance to families in the demanding but rewarding role of parenting.
The program may be able to support your family if you have children under the age of 8 and you live in the Nambour area — south to Woombye, west includes Montville, Mapleton to Kenilworth and north to Eumundi.
How Does the Program Work?
Following on from the initial contact a family support worker will arrange to meet with you to discuss your needs and ambitions for your family. If you both feel the program can help you, a family support worker and or a volunteer may be allocated to visit with you on a regular basis.
There are many reasons this program assists families, if you …
- you would like to improve your relationships with your child
- you would like to manage emotional sitaution more effectively
- are you pregnant and would like to get some information about the birth of your baby
- you have recently moved to the area and currenly don't know many people.
- are a new mother and learning new skills or perhaps feeling overwhelmed by family demands
- are suffering from postnatal depression
- are a father who has to care for children and a household for the first time
- need to feel more confident as a parent

Who is a Family Support Worker?
A Family Support Worker is an experienced professional who is trained in working with families and children and understands the difficulties families can face in numerous situations.
Who Are the Volunteers?
The volunteers are people from our community who care about families and children. These wonderful volunteers are trained by the program coordinator. To insure the highest safety for our clients a referee checks and clearance by the Queensland Government, Commission for Children and Young
People are all compulsory prior to commencing in their
volunteer role for the program.
What Will the Family Support Worker or Volunteer Do?
The Family Support Worker or volunteer will visit on a weekly basis, lend a listening ear and discuss different ways of managing difficult issues and work with you to help you achieve your personal goals.
The volunteer will be a support for you and your children and will endeavour to assist you in practical ways. However, it is important to note that the volunteer is not an unpaid housekeeper or babysitter. This service is available to work through issues with you, not for you. At no time will a volunteer be with children unless the parent/guardian is also present.
